Organisations, like individuals, only survive as long as they are aware of, respond to and stay ahead of the changes in their environments. Not every industry manages to survive; witness coal and shipbuilding and car industries in the West in the last two decades of the twentieth century. Making changes in times of upheaval is not easy. It can be frightening for both individuals and groups. But times of change are also times of great opportunity. When managed well, people can come out the other side of change, not having just survived, but having surged ahead as well.
